Journey with me and hone your inspiration, learn the subtle secrets of design, the history and relevance of fiber selection, the knowledge of custom pattern drafting, the elegance of custom draping, and the tiny changes that make fit, well, fit.

This course is taught through the vital lens of sustainability. Whatever stage you’re at is the right place.

This is not your grandma’s sewing home ec course full of rules and regulations.

There are a few guidelines, but we learn to create best by following what inspires us.

You’ll learn my (simple) garment sewing method, a solid framework for both design, patterning, and draping, & find prompts to encourage you on your way.

Once you’ve learned the few basics, you are free to experiment and create what your heart desires. And if you need more guidance, the online live check-ins are also there for you.

I The First Step of Design

This segment is about starting our design journey. Here we start gathering inspirations and following what brings us alive as well as what brings us serentiy.

II Finding Your Theme

The story we weave behind the inspirations that drive us to create matters. In this segment, we flesh out our stories, following the golden thread that weaves through our inspirations to a wholistic design theme for heirloom garments.

III Framework: Theme + Sustainability

Delving into the thematic framework for designing heirloom apparel we take a two-pronged approach: 1) looking at our design theme from a sustainability, functionality and purpose standpoint and 2) combining our thematic vision with those needs. We emerge with a solid cohesive wardrobe design plan for our lives.

IV Fiber History & Selection

This in-depth segment provides a historic look at fiber, the uses and benefits of different fibers, and gives us a foundation of sustainable and environmental considerations. Gentle environmentally conscious strategies, fabric sources, and other resources are shared.

V Apparel Design Sketching

Sketching our garments does more than just getting ideas on paper, though that’s an important step too! Learn tools for sketching and ways to use sketching to further your plans.


In Section I at the end of each segment, enjoy an “Artists Enriching Our Lives” piece. This area relates back to the segment as a whole and continues our inspirational journey, sharing ways that artists interact with the muse and share and enrich our lives.

VI Sewing Basics

This segment gives a great primer on machine sewing, sewing basics, tips, thoughts on sewing machines and more.

VII Body Block Creation

Body blocks are our pattern-building foundation so we go through step by step how to create, tweak and adjust them to fit our body. You will take your measurements and create sleeve, torso, skirt, and pant custom body blocks in this segment.

VIII Drafting Overview & Pattern Building

Pattern drafting builds on the prior segment’s base, we start to delve into our dreams and create custom patterns for our dream garments. Basic garment “recipes” considerations, tips, and planning guidance.

IX Draping Overview

Here we learn about the draping practice. How to start, tips about how to succeed as well as about grain, and fabric draping knowledge. -A tip on how to find if this method is one you’ll love using without breaking the bank on a dress form is also included.

X Secrets of the Trade

In this final segment, we go through each chapter for tips and tricks to help you on your way. Here we dig into common fit problems and solutions, sewing suggestions & tricks, further resources, and more.


In Section II instructional videos are included in the body block, pattern drafting, and draping segments.

∞ Bonus Class ∞

Hone Your Vision: Creating Your Style Story

This bonus class can be taken whenever you feel called to it, but it could be a powerful tool after segments I or II. We create an inspiration board as a tool, honing in on our personal golden thread that weaves throughout our inspirations. An understanding of our stylistic voice is vital in our heirloom wardrobe process because it is a touchstone for when we mosey off track or get overwhelmed with too many possibilities. It helps us create sustainable making decisions as well. Segment II is an overview of how our inspiration & theme relates specifically to garments, whereas this bonus class can help you refine and hone in on your theme for any creative endeavor. This stand alone class is included in the Heirloom Wardrobe Course. It has its own workbook and incredibly powerful results, a must for any creative in finding their voice, hearing it, and following it for the rest of their lives.
