Oh it’s not only Friday – and therefore time to sum up what I’ve been grateful for, but it’s also that day, the one that marks the end of another year. Years – how do they do it?
I have advise about that – the years flowing by, yes I do. It’s advise I would have given to my younger self:
Self + Friends -we’re not growing any younger. So try it – step on out ahead and into the lake of your dreams. The water isn’t as scary as you think and you’ll warm up once you start swimming. It is just as hard as you though it would be, but so much more compelling than you thought it could be. Your triumphs will be golden, and your failures just ways to tell you -not quite yet, or not quite like that. Try again, a little different.
You’ll have people behind you pushing your rump like a stubborn mule. Thank them.
Before you know it – you’ll be 30, and 40 and 50. And you’ll think, I’m so glad I tried. Even if I’m most definitely not where I thought I’d be. At least I’m not still sitting on the shore of a small small pond, wondering what it’s like to swim.

Thank you all, it’s been a rewarding year. I’m grateful for it. And:
Being compared to a French Movie Star – oh yes I was!
My momma. And woodstoves.
My daddy. And dog sitting.
My brother, even though he’s moving in. Ah maybe because he’s moving in.
Cross country skiing – who knew? Sister-in-laws knew.
This lecture found via Shanna Murray and this lecture found via searching google because I wanted more of Dr. Brene Brown. I am so much more something since having watched these. It’s a really good something.
“Up to the Mountain” by Patty Griffin.
In 2011 I will:
Run a half marathon.
Quell rampant anxiety.
Stand Up. Oh yes, Unabashedly.
Live with less stuff – & the stuff I live with being things that really move me.

BEAUTIFUL dress. The applique detail is just darling. You are inspiring me to get out my sewing machine begin working on sweet little spring dresses for the grandgirls.
