I have 4 draft posts saved. I’m trying to find the right way to say, so it’s the holiday season and I have one major wish:
I wish I could show you the amount of waste and harm the apparel industry creates. I wish I could give you a view of factories closing here and families going on unemployment and I wish you could see the miles and miles of unsafe factories and mills with crammed workers working their fingers till they bleed in China. I wish you could see the silence of the rivers and the ocean. The fat guy next door standing next to the bent and frail man from Bangladesh. I wish you could see our children tubbly with diabetes and smell the exhaust from our big cars and see birth defects sky rocket, even here. On our soil. I wish I could show you your face when you turn away, change the channel, go to target. How we look when we hear another family is closing their independent business doors. How lucky we are that we were born by happenchance on this ground. How we lay down and give up and it looks like computers, and tvs, and videogames, and movies we escape to. How we’re becoming virtual to find one more way, to not look up. And we’re running out of time.
For this holiday I want the same thing I’ve wanted since I was a girl. Look yourself in the eye and pick up the potential of your unabashed nature. Do the hardest thing you’ll ever do – work with me to first -Do No Harm.
